I don't use a ¼" foot on my Bernina. I use the open toe embroidery foot (#20) and move the needle one click to the right. It gives me a perfect scant quarter inch seam, keeps the fabric on top of both feed dogs and gives me an open view of where I'm stitching at all times. I have retired my ¼" foot (#37).
