I use my 6x14 inch ruler. I fold the fabric in half selvage to selvage and then fold it again. I lay it out and lay my 6 inch ruler and fold it over and over. It looks great and all store with the folded edge out. I realized I could do this when I saw them using what looked like a narrow acrylic cuttting board and selling it for $15.
