Me personally I usually buy for projects because yardage varies from quilts. If its something I like I might buy2-3 yards to use for small projects but what I have found is I end up not having anything to use random fabrics for so I have tried to stop just buying random fabrics unless I have a quilt in mind, when I find fabric I like, I raid my patterns and buy my own kits from the fabric and coordinating ones from the line. This ensures I have enough and have coordinating fabrics. I might buy a small amount extra if I can see using it for a small bag, pincusion, or other small projects. I find it easier to just make my own kits from fabrics I like
