I normally do lap sized quilts. If I want it for a main print or background I usually get 2 to 3 yards. If I think I may want it to have a supporting role in a top I'll get a yard or 2. If I just have to have it for no good reason I get a half yard and fold it up for my FQ stash that is both FQs and half yards.
