I know this isn't true for those with allergies but when I was about 11 I had headaches when my grandmother bought new yarn in the house. I thought she would be sad about my headaches and stop buying the yarn. She told me it was annoying and to get over it. I never got another headache from new yarn again. I always wondered about that.
