OK, that line we can still see? Turn the handwheel toward you until you can just barely see it. Then check the position of the hook tip vs. the needle eye.
They -always- look dirtier in photos! My machines are fairly clean but they look filthy in photos. Largely I think it's a fur problem in my house.
