I made the 7 shirts quilt for my sister in law. I used my husband's (her brothers) shirts for the main parts of the quilt. The reason for using a loved ones clothing isn't so much for sentiment but rather the closeness that remains by knowing the family members skin was next to the fabric. In other words the essence of the loved one is still there even after numerous washings.
