I used tissue paper from dollar store. Just lightly ironed it, traced my designs on with crayola washable marker and quilted right over it. Used a cowboy panto, and drew in armadillo, windmill, Alamo, Oil pump jack. The panto had longhorn head, star,cowboy hat, boots. Turned out great and was very happy with my results
Thank you Toni, that was just the kind of encouragement I was hoping to get. Did you use coloring book designs for your add-on designs, but try to make them continuous? Like I said, I can't draw to save my life! I love making quilts personal and trying to adjust the quilting designs to match the fabric theme or the personal interests of the recipient. Your Texas themed quilt sounds super.
