In using scraps, I find that you need to keep in mind the contrast, light medium and dark. I am attaching a picture of a quilt I made with scraps. Had to buy some light cream colored pieces as never have enough scraps of that. The pieces making the circle effect are Jabob's Ladder and were made by my quilting group in red, yellow, green and blue. Each person used her own fabrics so technically I guess they are scrappy too.
