According to
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buttonholer Peerless apparently were first in 1887. "The Peerless Buttonholer for use on Singer VS machines was patented in 1887 and made by The Sackett Mf'g Co".
Mine does say Peerless on it. It also says "Singer V.S. No 2".
