If it is your needle shoulder that is hurting, you are holding your hoop either too low or too high. Your sholder should be in the comfortable resting position at your side with just your elbow the wrist moving to form a stitch. If you are at a frame, the same thing applies do either put the frame up or down until your shoulder is relaxed.
