I saw a good one somewhere for larger circles. (I know it's not needle turn, but it's a great tip!)
You sew the circle onto a used dryer sheet or some other really thin material and turn it out then applique it onto your project.
I wish I'd known this before piecing my Dresden Plates. I was basting and pulling threads around a plastic template made from a for sale sign
