I believe C&C is a #40 thread, so a 90/14 needle would be right.
I generally use a 90/14 (topstitch) in my DSM for almost any thread and it does just fine. I used to switch to a smaller needle for the thinner threads but accidentally forgot a time or two, and noticed no difference. I do still switch to a larger eyed needle (100/16), when using heavier threads.
Just want to mention that I do still use a finer needle when doing general sewing, if I'm sewing on lighter weight fabric (so the holes will be smaller).
