My first thoughts would be that you are moving the fabric/sandwich while doing your FMQing and pulling on the needle, which then causes it to snap.

It might be best to have your dealer observe you as you quilt. If so, they could give you tips on how to eliminate the problem. And if not, they can then trouble shoot and help determine what the problem is.
