never, ever on purpose. It's not the pin or the sewing machine needle that I'm concerned about.
It's:
#1 - the timing etc. of my prized machine that would be costly to have repaired.
#2 - a piece of metal flying either into the machine causing repairs, or worse...into the sewer's eye.
Please reconsider your perspective. :)
