Janome did produce a Special Edition 8900 with the red front (color being the only difference, IIRC). The model number should be clearly marked on the front of the machine, plus the 8900 will be a 9mm machine with needle plates you switch out. The 7700 is a 7mm machine and has the APC stitch plate with the little spring-loaded piece to switch between zigzag and straight stitch openings. Acufeed is different between the two as well.
