When I took home ec in 7th grade when dinosaurs roamed the earth---they taught us to sew over pins. I did that for years as a garment sewer and never had a problem. This was long before computers were part of a sewing machine.

When I became a quilter and read all about how to make them---I began removing the pins unless the intersection was tough to sew. Then I would stitch very slow.
