Actually I used layer cakes,one printed and one white. Sewed them 1/4 inch around ,cut into quarters, turned them until I liked the layout. LOL
What a great idea.....to take it further, what size did you finally end up with and what did you square the blocks to? I have found that some layer cakes are not the correct size.....kind of "wonky".
