does sound confusing. Not having actually seen the pattern, I'm guessing that the top and bottom are made from 6 60 degree triangles, with the strip joining them to form the sides. Assuming this is the case, I would cut the side rectangle a bit long. Then I would do all the triangle seams except one, on both the top and bottom portions, then attach the side, aligning the triangle seams across this piece. When you've attached the rectangle all the way around, to both the top & bottom, sew the last seam in the top and the side seam. Then part of the last seam on the bottom. Turn, stuff, hand stitch the opening, add the buttons & give it to little miss muffet.
