It's more like you're discovering a problem that was there before you oiled it. It may be the washer is in wrong.
Take it apart and clean it. There should be a screw on the clutch knob. Back that out until you can unscrew the clutch knob. There will be a washer inside with 3 tabs on the outside and 2 on the inside. It has a front and back and it makes a difference how it goes in. The two inside tabs fit in the notches in the end of the shaft. The wheel should just slide off the shaft. Take things apart, clean them and reassemble. It doesn't need more than a drop of oil on the shaft. More shouldn't hurt it.
I always mess up putting the washer back in. It usually takes me at least a couple tries to get it right.
