I don't have a manual, yet, but was wondering what the silver knobby-thing (near the zz mechanism) might be. It looks like the stitch length regulator on the very old model 66 that I have. Does it regulate the width of the zig zag?

Yes the vertical thing is stitch length, the round thing is the ZZ width and the thing on the outside of the ZZ width is the needle position.
