I make pet beds, so NO scrap goes unused in my house. If I'm unable to sew it up into a block, then it goes into a bed. I have a teenage niece whose parents have long term health problems, so I sew for both she and her younger brother (mom's unable). Girl is into upcycling just as I am, so my sewing is keeping her in style at school (high school is so tough). Don't mind, because she is a 4.0 student. Same goes for her little brother, I work with him on all class projects (did it with my daughter when she was young too). So the answer is "YES" they can be used. All animal shelters need washable beds for homeless animals. Salve Edges can be used in making string blocks or bags. Good luck
