I was watching a quilting video and it was suggested that you cut one inch squares of fabrics and place them on your scanner, numbering the fabrics and the swatches. Then when you convert them to black and white on your computer it is easier to see the different values. She was doing portrait quilts and was using 30+ different fabrics.
