I just do scrappy squares a lot. I did one last year, picked several coordinating prints with baby animals, chopped them into 3-1/2" & 6-1/2" squares, threw in a few squares of solid from the stash to give the eyes a break, and then did a meander in a rainbow variegated thread to finish it off. The mom loved it!

Here is is all crinkly after a wash on hot. I always wash baby quilts on hot before gifting them, so I can tell the parent that the quilt will definitely survive it.

Close-up of my not-so-great quilting. This was my first meander so it's not as smooth as I'd like it, but nobody has noticed so far.
