I haven't used it. About the painter's tape, though. I place a strip of painter's tape on the bed, but I mark it with a permanent marker liner. To get the line exact, I raise the presser foot, lower the needle, place my favorite 6-inch ruler on the bed and move it next to the needle (making sure the lines on it are aligned with my sewing machine bed in all ways), lower the presser foot onto the ruler, then use a permanent marker along the ruler's edge to mark a straight line. The tape does not have to be perfectly aligned because the marker line will be. Works pretty well for me.
