I just use a pint canning jar and never have had any problems, but I do have a question. The spool that you're showing looks like machine embroidery thread, is it? If so, I've never managed to figure out how to adjust the tension/s for using it on an older machine, none of my older machines seem to like it. Maybe you can give me some hints.
