It's likely from the 1800s if it's a treadle with a box on top. Pictures would assist greatly.
As Cathy said it could be a wolf in sheep's clothing and worth almost nothing.
OTOH if it were a mother of pearl 1880s transverse shuttle machine in the original cabinet... (have I got your attention Steve?)
