Default Quilting direction

Hm, I posted a picture of my latest quilt top in the pictures forum and then I asked a question in response to a comment from a member on my quilt. I fear I should've put the question here so apologies if I've put it in the wrong spot...newbie and all that ya know!

So my question is: do I have to alternate the direction of my straight line quilting if I already have a centre square/medallion already quilted first? My quilt is a square of HSTs with a central bordered medallion of QSTs. I want to quilt 1/4" either side of the diagonal seams of the HSTs.

Can I just do my quilting lines outward from the medallion border to the edge of the quilt or do I have to still alternate directions starting at the centre border and sewing "out"for one, and then starting at the outer edge and sewing "in" to the central border for the next? I presumed the quilted centre medallion would stabilise it as I wouldn't be sewing through the already quilted medallion so alternating wasn't necessary. Thanking you for any advice....
