A queen mattress is only 60 x 78. Anything over that is hanging down. The 89 is a bit short for the length, but the side should work just fine. When I design my quilts, I always just make the real center design area 60 x 72 or so. Everything else is border. A 82 inch wide quilt gives you 11 inches of overhang each side. Unless you have one of them new fangled popper topper mattresses, it should look just fine. I think it will be just ducky. Make nice looking matching sham covers for her pillows and no one will notice. Functionally, the top is big enough for two people. tim in san jose
