May/June McCall's has a peacock panel (I think, it definitely was blue) and it could have strips added for borders. Now that I think about it, if you have a serger, you could do the quilt as you go serger way to make a quilt. It would be easy, and as each piece is sewn on, it will be done, so you could stop when she got bored with it. Actually, this youtube is done on a regular machine.
