I was thinking this as well. I would consult my husband about anything political in our yard. It is because I have to ask him for permission, but since it is a yard that we all have...it seems only right that we both decide about something as obvious as a sign.
In our case, since we are foreigners living here, we actually didn't put the sign in our yard, exactly, but let them hang it on the garden fence, which is actually the other side of the road from our house (we have two pieces of land, split by a road).
