Try Sewers Aid. It's a silicone product that you can put directly on he thread. Just put little dots all over the thread cone. Also little dots along the thread that is already off the cone before it hits the needle.[does that make sense?]Mono thread can be kind of sticky and it is probably sucking on to the tension discs as it tries to pass through them.
