A long time ago, I saw an old beat up quilt at a yard sale--it was covering some greasy car parts. I asked the guy who was doing the yard sale how much he would take for it. I can't remember how much he said, but it was cheap. I just felt like I needed to rescue that quilt. It was a pretty cool pattern, red, white and blue fabric. It was really tattered, but had good parts to it. I decided that it would be a cutter quilt, and I made some really cute teddy bears out it and sold them in a consignment shop. I just hated to see that quilt being used that way.
What a beautiful quilt that one is! I'm glad your aunt rescued it and provided a place of honor for it.
If you want one too, just keep looking. I've found several at estate sales and if they are in my budget, I will purchase them. I also found three quilts at a home when I responded to a craigslist ad for a quilt rack. They are old and well used. The lady sold all of them to me for $15! :P So, be patient, but keep looking!
