If you look at my post "3rd. cousin quilt/blankie" and look at the second picture of a Dressmaker from the 70's(?) and if you zoom in on the needle plate area, you will see a thin black line. That line is a piece of 1/8" graphic tape from Hobby Lobby. The tape denotes the 1/4" mark to the right of the needle for my
seam allowance. My Riccar has the same setup. I do not find any issues with left needle only machines. It's more of personal thing and really does not bother me. I have several in the stable and do switch them around depending on what color machine I want to use on a particular day/project.
