I agree with Dunster! Why not just cross hatch the two layers, sewing each row in the opposite direction to keep from distorting the fabric and getting it skewed sideways. I made a "2" layer summer quilt and I machine embroidered butterflies randomly to hold the top and bottom together. Good luck.
