A good medium weight tightly woven muslin is the best. Stay away from the thin loose weave ones. ( although most will hold up). If the weave is loose you will get a lot of shrinkage while that tightens up. All muslin shrinks. To lessen the wrinkling remove from the dryer when still slightly damp and iron dry. Sizing also works/helps a lot when the wrinkles seem set in.
