Years ago when I first starting appliqueing, I used the Heat N Bond Ultrahold and it gummed up the needles. If it is Ultrahold, there is more bonding agent added, which is thicker and harder for needles to manipulate through. The best is the Heat n Bond Lite. You can iron the fabric piece, and lift it back up to maneuver it around. Easily hand sew through it.
