Wash that quilt!! I am begging you, if you have indoor pets, you HAVE to wash that quilt! As someone who has a severe allergy to cats, I cannot stress how important it is to take every precaution to not put someone in the ER from a gift! Wash it and package it immediately to try and keep pet hair/dander off of it. I know this sounds dramatic but if you've ever had your throat swell shut you would never want that for anyone. What are the odds? Probably slim. But I don't want to be the one to give a quilt only to make the recipient or their family member sick.
