First off I would look at the dealers near you. IMHO you must have a good dealer and repair person. Try out the machine before you buy if the dealer won't let you then DON'T buy there. Check the machine has all you want and that they will give classes for FREE to teach you to use it. The Bernina's have longer throat and also stitch regulators for quilting. I did not have good luck with my 4.0 Pfaff. Neither did the 4 other people that bought them. They don't make them anymore, but stay clear if you see one for sale. The Janome's have a larger area as well now. A lot of the girls have them and are very pleased. Happy Shopping
