This concept isn't unlike rulers we use with sit down quilting machines. As in free motion using a domestic sewing machine, sitdown machines require moving the quilt.

Provided you have a foot thick enough, as well as rulers that are .25" thick, you shouldn't have any trouble. To aid with easier movement, I use the handigrip nonskid cut to size textured strips on all my quilting rulers. They work far better than sand dots at gripping the fabric.

From experience, I've learned, not all quilting rulers lend themselves to free-motion quilting. I find tiny 2" circles almost impossible to use. You'll have to experiment to see what works best for you.
