I did something similar to what you did but used a closet rod 8 feet long on brackets attached to the rafters above. My quilt tops were on hangers prior to this and due to their weight, the hanger would sag and the top would acquire wrinkles again. Now I can hang the quilt top and its backing together. I also hung my roll of batting up on the rafters too as it was in my bathroom taking up space. Now I can pull out how much I need over my cutting table below and cut.
