Hello from the City of Lights...not THAT one! Aurora, Illinois!
I was turned onto the Quilting Board by a quilter friend and vintage sewing machine enthusiast. I used to sew all(most) all of my clothes in high school and college until I killed my mother's Singer 457 Stylist (very bad about oiling and I didn't know about motor grease!) I ended up buying a Brother (HS-1000) that just never worked right. Lately, I've been sewing mostly home-dec projects (pillows, curtains, etc). My neighbor recently gave me his mother's Singer 201-2 and it's so nice to use accurate machine again. I'm learning how to care for these old beauties and I'm getting interested (confidence) to try some rudimentary sewing machine repair. The adjuster's manual is a revelation.
I have a (flannel) cat quilt I started years ago but it's just squares at this point - I'd like to finish it and give it to my mother. I also have plans for a quilt made from thrift store wool suit pants. But I think I might start off with some potholders and the like.
Thanks for such a great community!
