Bought the small (14", I think) one, grew to love it. Bought the larger one...love it, too. They are the clear acrylic ones. If the lines on your cutting mat distract you when you make the cut using the Slide Lock, flip the mat over and use the blank side. Per the video, you should be using your ruler to set the placement of the cut (not the mat lines).

I bought the smaller one for my DIL. Don't want those hands that hold those of my DGSs to have any cuts or injury from a rotary cutter !! Of course, I wouldn't want her to cut herself with the rotary cutter, in any case. But, those hands that hold my grandsons' hands are very special to me. BTW, she was delighted when she opened the gift of a new quilting tool. "Cool!"

I even stash the small one in my suitcase when I travel as I frequently find a quilt shop, purchase some fabric, and need to cut fabric for "hand projects".

Yes, they're a bit "pricey". Perhaps adding them to your personal Christmas gift list, suggest one as "the perfect birthday gift, or..." Perhaps if you receive a VISA / MasterCard / American Express gift card, you could use that as the means to pay for the tool when ordering on-line...or, at a show. If the Slide Lock folks don't already, perhaps should consider adding a "Purchase Gift Card" to their on-line ordering. Then, you just tell folks, "A SlideLock gift-card would be great. This is the URL."

It's a simple design and tool that works exactly as it's advertised.

Enjoy your new toy!
