Just like quiltstringz I have stored my fabric in Rubbermaid totes in my garage for many years. We have a small house and my sewing room is a space next to the water softener and the furnace. I do open the totes often to choose and remove fabrics add new pieces. I have stored both washed and new fabric without insects or rodents or fabric rot. I would encourage you to label the totes so you can find what you need. I store my fabrics by category, i.e. baby, guys, patriotic.
