I had seen this method a few weeks ago, and if you look carefully at the picture of the final cutting lines, you will notice that only four geese need a "sky" from those two 3" strips. At that time I thought: if I were to make that, I would leave off the 3" strips. I would just add a triangle at those four spots. (Larger than necessary.) Then they could get trimmed to the size needed. I don't like to see tiny pieces cut out of long strips, either.
