I had the Ott lamp with the floor base and the magnifier on the "stem". We loved the light from my lamp, but the base was not heavy enough, I had to "anchor" the base under the end of the couch so it would not fall. It fell anyway, and everything broke - shade, light, etc. It lasted almost 2 years. BTW - it arrived with part of the shade broken, my dh taped it together so I could use it.
I now use the "daylight" bulbs in my sewing room in all lamps. It seems to me the light is comparable.
I haven't replaced my lamp because I am satisfied with the light from the daylight bulbs from Lowe's.
