More trouble perhaps but makes the fabric not "twist" and limits raveling of the edges - sew a line of stitching along the raw edges, connecting at the selvage edges to make a tube -- make sure your tube does not twist your fabric. Have done 8 yards this way without an issue -- put into the load with other cotton, mixed blend fabrics (ie, dirty clothes!) and used a warm water setting. No problems, few threads to clip away. I always shake all items before putting into the dryer to release the creases made from the spin cycle, and use a low heat -- doesn't take long to dry. Some folks will do this without any fabric softeners....personally do not use dryer sheets.
