Thanks everyone for your encouragement..I suspected that maybe sewing on the bias had something to do with it. Yep. reduced my foot pressure and lengthened my stitch to about 8 or 9 per inch. Yes, I thought perhaps I should sew in opposite directions each time ( I started my sewing from the middle, working outwards) but that would mean having more and more quilt under my harp every second time wouldn't it and that was going to be just too much bulk to handle given the size of the thing? Or have I got that wrong....not so good at the visualising thing but thought that was what would happen so opted to just keep sewing in the one direction so the amount under the harp would get less and less.
Anyhoo, thanks again, will just continue on as I have been doing. I really appreciate all the encouragement and advice; what a lovely community you all are.
