When I have trouble figuring out how I want to quilt any particular project I sketch it out on grid paper and play with different designs. Sometimes I will put a piece of clear vinyl on top of the quilt and mark it with erasable markers to see a larger area and how it might look. You may want to try this and play with different quilting ideas.
