I use address labels on the short side of rulers.
When I worked in a shop, all of us had our own equipment and it all looked the same. The DD does jewelery and made all of us beads on a short loop so it was easy to determine whose scissors were out. Worked great. I now move them onto the equipment I take to class or guild. I included a pic.
